Islamic Misconceptions About Christianity

TRINITY

Islamic Misconception:
There are 3 Gods United. Father is a god, Jesus is a god, Holy Spirit is a god.

Christian Teaching:
We worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity; Neither confounding the Persons; nor dividing the Essence. For there is one Person of the Father; another of the Son; and another of the Holy Ghost. But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, is all one; the Glory equal, the Majesty coeternal. (Athanasius Creed).

Jesus Taught:
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (One God with 3 persons) - Matthew 28:19
"Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” (John 14:6-7)
"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you." (John 14:16-20)

WORSHIP

Islamic Misconception:
Christians only worship Jesus the Living God.

Christian Teaching:
We worship God in his totality, including all personages and attributes of God.

Jesus Taught:
John 4:23 "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”

JESUS' MISSION

Islamic Misconception:
Jesus only came to minister to the Jews.

Christian Teaching:
Jesus came to ransom all men by paying for their sins.

Jesus Taught:
Matthew 26:26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.” 27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the[b] covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”
Luke 24:45 "Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

POWER OF JESUS

Islamic Misconception:
Jesus is limited. He cannot do anything on his own.

Christian Teaching:
Jesus is All Powerful as a Person of God.

Jesus Taught:
Matthew 28:18 "Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me."
Acts 2:24 "It was impossible for death to keep its hold on him."

ETERNAL LIFE

Islamic Misconception:
To gain eternal life, you must keep the commandments.

Christian Teaching:
You must accept God's gift of salvation through Jesus Christ to gain eternal life.

Jesus Taught:
John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son."
